Before
instant Health Card Validation was available, validating a
version code was only possible through sending a signed release
by the patient to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care
or by validating through the telephone version. It was often
the case where we couldn’t obtain a signature from the
patient, while validation through the telephone service was
an extremely time consuming procedure.
On-line validation is currently used in our office both through
overnight batch and during a patient’s visit, for those
cases where it is necessary. It immediately will determine
the validity of a Health Card and allows us to direct invalid
Health Card patients to contact the Ministry. Quite often,
the patient is unaware that there is a problem with their
coverage until it is brought to their attention through our
receptionists.
Overall, I find this to be a very valuable tool.
